Head of Middle & Back Office Operations – FX Prime Brokerage

We are partnering with a dynamic financial services firm to hire a senior leader for a pivotal role in building and running their middle- and back-office operations.

Role Overview

Design, implement, and oversee the end-to-end middle- and back-office operating model for a prime brokerage focused on macro hedge funds. Own the systems architecture, controls, and external integrations to ensure straight-through processing (STP), regulatory compliance, accurate books & records, and top-tier client service across ETD and OTC products (FX, rates, credit, equity vol, financing).

Key Responsibilities

• Operating Model & Controls: Architect ETD/OTC flows from trade capture to P&L/GL; implement robust controls (maker-checker, SOC1-ready framework, audit trails); establish STP policies, break management, KPIs, and analytics.
• Systems Architecture: Leverage Calypso for trade capture, valuation, P&L, positions, collateral, and GL feeds; manage reference/market data sources; integrate with OMS/EMS and data warehouses; define product taxonomies.
• External Connectivity: Build FIX/clearing drop-copies, give-up workflows; set up FX prime brokerage, CLS/netting, SWIFT/FpML; connect to OTC platforms, CCPs/FCMs; handle regulatory reporting (CFTC/EMIR/MiFIR, UTI/UPI, LEI).
• Product Build-Outs: Prioritize ETD (allocations, margin, expiries); FX (allocs, settlements, exotics); Rates (affirmation, cash flows, SIMM); Credit (events, accruals); Equity Vol/Financing (variance, corp actions, funding).
• Reconciliations & Finance: Automate T+0/T+1 recs for trades, positions, cash, valuations; deliver daily P&L explains and GL feeds.
• Client Service: Manage onboarding, account structures, fees, margin policies, statements; align with PB/FCM/FXPB partners; negotiate agreements.
• Team & Processes: Lead MO/BO team (24/5 coverage), create SOPs, manage vendors/SLAs.

Required Experience

• 10-15+ years in multi-asset middle/back office, with deep expertise in FX, proven experience building ops from scratch at a broker, mini-prime, FCM, PB, or hedge fund.
• Hands-on with OTC lifecycles (affirmation, clearing, margin, valuations) and ETD give-ups.
• Systems implementation (trade capture, risk/P&L, collateral, accounting); STP integrations to OMS/EMS, market data, GL.
• Proficiency in messaging (FIX, SWIFT, FpML, SFTP); OTC platforms and CCP/FCM connectivity.
• Regulatory ops: Trade reporting (CFTC/EMIR/MiFIR), UTI/UPI, LEI; margin rules (SIMM/CCP).
• Strong data skills (SQL, Python for recs/ETL); control-oriented with incident management expertise.
